<h3>Students will learn about screen-printing and how to set up shop. Demonstrations will include a Photoshop introduction to alter images and drawings, how to create multiple stencils using silkscreens, and additional surface design decorations such as decals and lusters. Students will discover the process of slip and newsprint transfer application and various decoration demos to create rich layered surfaces. Audiovisual presentations will offer extensive examples of print implementations in contemporary ceramics . At the end of the course students will have all the skills and information needed  to make their own successful transfers.</h3>
<div>JASON BIGE BURNETT GRADUATED FROM WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY IN 2009 WITH A BFA IN CERAMICS AND BA’S IN BOTH PRINTMAKING AND GRAPHIC DESIGN. AFTER COLLEGE JASON CONTINUED HIS EDUCATION AT PENLAND SCHOOL OF CRAFTS IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA AS A CORE FELLOWSHIP STUDENT FOR TWO YEARS. SINCE THEN HE HAS EXHIBITED NATIONALLY, BEEN FEATURED IN CERAMICS MONTHLY AND POTTERY MAKING ILLUSTRATED. <h3>Los estudiantes aprenderán a crear transferencias para vasijas y esculturas utilizando medios serigráficos básicos y dibujo libre. Las demostraciones incluirán una introducción a como generar y modificar imágenes y dibujos para transferir, cómo crear plantillas múltiples utilizando técnicas serigráficas y  otros métodos de decoración y diseño de superficie tales como calcomanías y lustres. Los estudiantes descubrirán el proceso de transferencia a través de papel  de prensa y  muchos otros trucos para crear superficies irresistibles. Se ofrecerán amplios ejemplos de implementaciones gráficas en la cerámica contemporánea mediante charlas audiovisuales. Al fin del curso los estudiantes tendrán todos los conocimientos y técnicas necesarias para efectuar sus propias transferencias con éxito.</h3>

<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">This course is designed to offer various approaches to  representational ceramics through a series of  demonstrations and lectures that will address both the technical as well as the conceptual aspects of  figuration in the intimacy of Cristina&#8217;s rural Penland studio.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13px;">Techniques offered will include general anatomy,strategies for figurative rendering from visual sources,hollow slab construction ,detailing skills for achieving clarity and interest in sculpture and an overview of surface possibilities . <h3><span style="text-decoration: underline;">INSTRUCTOR BIO:</span></h3>
<p>Cristina CórdovaOriginally from Puerto Rico, Cristina Córdova receives her BA from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez and continues to earn an MFA in Ceramics from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.Upon graduation in 2002 she is selected for a a three year artists residency at Penland School of Crafts where she later serves as a trustee from 2006 to 2010. Some of Cristina Córdova’s recognitions include an American Crafts Council Emerging Artist Grant,a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship ,a Virginia Groot Foundation Recognition Grant and several International Association of Art Critics Awards.Cristina has taught at Penland School of Crafts(NC), Haystack Mountain School (ME), Santa Fe Clay(NM), Mudfire(GA) and Odyssey Center(NC) and Anderson Ranch(CO) .Her work is part of the permanent collections of the <span style="font-size: 13px;">Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington , D.C.),</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">Fuller Craft Museum,(MA), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico(MAC),the Museum of Art of Puerto Rico (MAPR),the Mint Museum of Craft and Design (NC) and the Joseph -Schein Museum in NY.</span><span style="font-size: 13px;">She currently lives and works in Penland, NC.</span></p>

		<description><![CDATA[SEE IMAGES OF WORKSHOP : 2012, SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO &#160; In this workshop Lisa will explore a large variety of fired and cold surface treatments using powdered clay, vinegar, shellac, organic materials and more. Students will create small pieces incorporating metal and clay. The metal allows the work to be spontaneous and exciting giving one the freedom to push beyond the limits of clay. Students will finish up with post fired techniques on bisque ware using metallic powders, paints and encaustic wax. ALL LEVELS WELCOME. MATERIAL FEES ARE WAVED FOR APPLICANTS REGISTERED BY JANUARY 31st. Clague will present a talk to share her work and offer insight into her provocative figurative imagery tenuously hovering between fantasy and reality. Lisa Clague received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her MFA from California College of Arts and Crafts. <p>In this workshop Lisa will explore a large variety of fired and cold surface treatments using powdered clay, vinegar, shellac, organic materials and more. Students will create small pieces incorporating metal and clay. The metal allows the work to be spontaneous and exciting giving one the freedom to push beyond the limits of clay. Participants can expect to leave with a number tested glaze recipes and tiles to bring home and apply to their work along with many other resources for successful surfaces. The artists: Lisa Clague, Jerylin Virden and Sergei Isupov were invited to teach at Espacio Arana and with Cristina Córdova, Jeannine Marchand, Cecile Molina and Jorge Díaz Torres, together exhibit in the Contemporary Ceramic Collective.</p>
